Xenonauts-2 Kickstarter Launched!

We’ve been talking about this Kickstarter for a very long time now, but it’s finally here – giving our community their first chance to pre-order Xenonauts-2! The purpose of this campaign is to raise additional funding for the final stage of the development process – the part where we add new content to the game (new aliens, more battlefield equipment, additional maps, etc) and polish up the experience by fixing all the bugs, usability problems and balance issues reported by the community. The more funding we can raise, the longer we can spend doing this … and the better the final product will be for everyone!

The rewards for this Kickstarter are all digital rewards, because we want to maximize the funds we can spend on improving the game (unfortunately a lot of the revenue raised by physical rewards gets spent producing and shipping the reward). The most popular reward from the Kickstarter for the original Xenonauts way back in 2012 has returned – backers are able to put themselves in the game as custom soldiers! Backing at the £35 / $50 tier allows the backer to put a soldier with their name and nationality into the pool, but also to create a unique portrait for that soldier using our Portrait Generator tool.

Anyone willing to back at the highest £200 / £500 tiers will receive a custom portrait painted from a photograph of themselves by our portrait editor – if you want to see what that looks like, there’s an example on the Kickstarter page showing the results of painting from a photo of me (unfortunately for me, it’s pretty accurate)!

For the first week of the Kickstarter we are running a backer vote on the stretch goals, allowing backers to rank the features we are proposing as stretch goals in order of preference. The most popular stretch goal will become our first stretch goal, automatically unlocked if we hit our funding goal of £50,000, and the second most popular will become the next stretch goal, etc. So if you’re planning to back our Kickstarter, remember to cast your vote for the stretch goals you want to see in the game! 🙂

We’re aiming to launch a closed beta of Xenonauts-2 that contains both the strategy layer and the ground combat layer in about three months (this will only be open to Kickstarter backers) and then launch properly into Early Access on Steam / GOG before the end of the year. It would mean a huge amount to us if you were willing to support us during the development of Xenonauts-2, because this is a huge project and we want to be sure we have the development time and budget to finish the game properly.

Our community has always supported us when we needed it the most, and we hope you’ll be willing to do so again!
